INTERVIEW GUIDE

Accenture Management Consultant Interview: Questions & Process

Accenture's management-consulting interview is more accessible than MBB but still case-driven. You'll typically clear an online assessment, then face a mix of case interviews (business problems, market sizing) and behavioral/fit questions tied to Accenture's values. Cases tend to be a bit more conversational and tech/implementation-flavored than the rigid frameworks at McKinsey or Bain.

The interview process

1. Application + online assessment online, cognitive + situational judgment
Tests: numerical/logical reasoning and how you'd handle realistic workplace scenarios
2. HireVue / recorded video interview asynchronous, a few timed prompts
Tests: motivation, communication, and behavioral responses recorded on camera
3. Case interview(s) 30-45 min live, sometimes 1-2 rounds
Tests: structuring a business problem, market sizing, and basic quantitative analysis with a recommendation
4. Behavioral / fit interview 30-45 min
Tests: teamwork, leadership, client-readiness, and alignment with Accenture's values
5. Final round with senior leadership interview with a manager or senior manager
Tests: polish, executive presence, and a final case or experience deep-dive

How to answer (worked examples)

A retail client's profits are declining despite stable revenue. How would you diagnose it?
Take a moment to structure before talking. Since revenue is stable, profit pressure is on the cost side: break costs into fixed vs variable, COGS vs operating, and segment by store/channel/product. State your hypothesis tree, ask for data to test the biggest driver first, then drive to a recommendation. Accenture cares that you're organized, MECE-ish, and that you actually conclude — not that you recite a textbook framework.
Estimate the number of EVs sold in the US last year.
Anchor on a known number (US population ~330M, or ~15M new vehicles sold per year), apply a reasonable EV share, and state every assumption out loud. Keep numbers round, then sanity-check the final figure against anything you know. The math being clean and your logic being transparent matters more than nailing the real number.
Why Accenture specifically?
Be specific and genuine: connect Accenture's scale, technology-and-implementation focus, and breadth of industries to what you want to learn early-career. Avoid generic 'great people and culture' answers — name something concrete (a service line, a project type, the tech-consulting angle) and tie it back to your goals.

What Accenture looks for

FAQ

Are Accenture cases as hard as McKinsey or Bain?

Generally a bit more approachable and conversational, and often flavored toward technology and implementation rather than pure strategy. You still need solid structure and quant, but the bar on rigid frameworks is lower than at MBB.

What's the online assessment like?

Expect cognitive/numerical-reasoning sections and situational-judgment questions about workplace scenarios. Practice timed numerical reasoning and read each SJT scenario for what a strong, client-focused response looks like.

How important is the 'why Accenture' answer?

Important. With many qualified candidates, a specific, authentic motivation — tied to Accenture's tech-and-consulting model — helps you stand out in both the video and live rounds.

Do I need a business background?

No. Accenture hires across majors. What matters is structured thinking, quantitative comfort, and communication — all of which you can prepare for with practice cases.

How long is the process?

Often a few weeks from application through final round, though it varies by office, service line, and recruiting cycle.
